He was very familiar with Logic, but he's an engineering student and should pick up on Pro Tools fairly quickly. My son is actually the musician, I'm very involved in the music development, but he will be doing all the recording and playing. Also, when we did some work in the studio, it would have been helpful to know Pro Tools to work better with the engineer. Most seem to feel Logic and Pro Tools are roughly on par, but I really want to be done with Apple from a software perspective.

I felt then, and doubly feel now, that I'd rather be on Pro Tools as the industry standard. Recording Software: I bought Logic for around $500 many years ago and still have the 10-disk package (not sure what version). I want to use an older Mac for the reasons stated and to minimize expense. I went to Guitar Center to buy a PC interface to replace the Apogee (I don't really ever use the PreSonus 8-port), and the guy at the desk basically said the sound quality of any affordable PC interface is going to be far below the Duet 2.

I'm sick of all of that, so I was actually determined to switch to a PC for Pro Tools, until I realized my Apogee Duet 2 and my PreSonus FireWire 8 port wouldn't work on the PC. On an OS level, my experience is that Apple takes away functionality (I have some important software that won't run on Catalina for example). That said, I hate Apple (the company) and their latest computers that can't be updated, usb-c only ports, are very expensive for larger disk storage, and are unrepairable after AppleCare runs out. Regarding Apple computer choice: We are almost exclusively an Apple house for computers, phones, and tablets. Here is a little more background to answer some of the questions.
